ANS 410 installed in Vigna Di Valle (Italy) for WMO rainfall intensity intercomparison
The ANS 410 automaic rain gauge has been chosen for a comparing study on rain gauges
In 2007 the ANS 410 was chosen among 30 other rain gauges to participate at an internaltional intercomparison on rain fall intensity. Over 90 different types were proposed by the various members of the WMO (World Meteorological Organisation). An expert team chose various sensors with different prinziples of measuremnt to give an wide overview of the technologies available on the market. In spring time 2007 the instruments were sent to Italy for first tests on accuracy and capability. Afterwards, in summer 2007, the rain gauges were installed on the Re.S.M.A. site. (Meteorological GAW station, that is operated by the Italien Airforce). The testfield has been built extra for this test and allows a good and comparable situation of all participation rain gauges. The intercomparion is scheduled until October 2007, with possibility of extending the period. The Eigenbrodt ANS 410 was installed on 27. of July 2007 with the asssistance on Eigenbrodt personell to ensure a proper set up of the instrument.
There are probably some excellent charactristics of the ANS 410, that predict the ANS 410 to be chosen for this intercomparison:
- The unique shape of the champaign cup (utility patent registrerd) allows an ecxcellent behaviour the wind
field and therefore less losses due to turbolences of prcipitation. - Using a precision pressure sensor to determine the precipitation amount and intensity is also to be seen as unique on the market.
- Finnally the combination of 0,01 mm resolution standard, a good accuracy over the whole measuring range
and a maximum capability of more than 1200 mm/hour.
These advantages must have to persuaded the expert team of choosing for the ANS 410 rain guage.
